Far more than the 5,000 soldiers that the US defense headquarters - the Pentagon - announced just over a day ago would be moved from Germany, Trump said on Sunday night, local time in Sweden.
The decision to move came after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz - to Trump’s great anger - criticized the US war on Iran. Merz has said, among other things, that the US lacks a “convincing strategy” and is being “humiliated” by Iran.
The US military has a large presence in Germany, with more than 36,000 active-duty soldiers. In addition, it is reported to have nearly 1,500 reservists and 11,500 civilians in the country.
