The USA is expected to stop prescription fluoride supplements for children. The Trump administration in the USA presented plans on Wednesday to prevent prescription fluoride supplements as more and more people are raising doubts about their efficacy.
Fluoride supplements have been seen as a measure to reduce, among other things, tooth decay, and the substance is found in, among other things, toothpaste. Supplements are given, among other things, in areas where the amount of fluoride in drinking water is low, or when the risk of caries is deemed significant.
The US Health Minister Robert F Kennedy Jr has long expressed criticism of fluoride supplementation.
"Unlike toothpaste with fluoride, or fluoride mouthwash, these products are swallowed by small children. Fluoride tablets) have not been approved by the FDA (the regulatory authority)", writes the responsible American health department HHS.
