A lower court has previously ruled that the pill, which is used to terminate early pregnancies and manage early miscarriages, may only be prescribed on-site at a clinic.

The Supreme Court will now decide whether to take up the case.

The majority of abortions in the United States are performed with pills, and about a quarter are prescribed remotely. Many women use this option in states where abortion is banned.

More than 20 states have banned or restricted abortion rights since 2022, when the Supreme Court reexamined the federal right to abortion in the United States. However, in 2024, the court rejected an attempt to restrict access to mifepristone.
