That Europe's technology dependence is an acute problem was made clear by the US decision on Friday to stop Anthropic's most advanced AI models for foreign citizens.
During Tuesday's debate, EU members from several camps demanded that the Union must now speed up work on European technology independence, according to the European Commission's proposal, reports Europaportalen.
However, members disagreed on how European digital sovereignty should become a reality.
Several members pointed to deregulation as the solution to making the EU more independent, while others instead advocated stricter regulations, public investment, and a digital tax.
