The three leading stock indexes in New York rose on Friday.
The broad S&P 500 index, which gained 0.7 percent, has now closed on plus for five days in a row. The index has also risen four of the last five weeks, boosted by hopes that President Donald Trump will lower the tariffs announced against several countries.
The Dow Jones industrial index rose 0.8 percent and the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index went up 0.5 percent.
Among individual companies, the Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk was notable. The stock fell nearly 3 percent after the announcement that CEO Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen is leaving his post. The company pointed to the stock's decline in recent times.
Counted over the entire past week, the S&P 500 rose 5.4 percent, the Dow Jones 3.4 percent and Nasdaq 7.2 percent.
