The sailboat Madleen set off on Sunday from the harbor of Catania on Sicily. The purpose of the journey to Gaza is, according to the organizers, an attempt to get in help, increase “international awareness” of the humanitarian crisis and “break Israel's siege”.

No matter how dangerous this mission is, it is not even close to as dangerous as the whole world's silence in the face of the live broadcast of the genocide, said Greta Thunberg at a press conference before the departure on Sunday, reports AP.

The Republican – largely Trump loyal – US Senator Lindsey Graham writes on X that he hopes Greta and the others can swim, which provokes outrage among some in the comment field.

”Why is a 69-year-old US Senator joking about a 22-year-old Swedish activist's drowning? Is this American politics now?”, writes one.

”Why would a US Senator threaten a young climate activist?", writes another.

The group expects the journey to take seven days, if they are not stopped on the way.
