Another vote in the Senate remains. If the resolution passes there, however, obstacles await in the House of Representatives.
Since Trump ordered the attack on Iran in late February, Democrats have forced repeated votes on resolutions that would require the president to obtain congressional approval or to withdraw US forces.
Republican Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana voted yes on the resolution after having voted no several times before. Three other Republicans, who had also previously voted yes in the Senate, voted yes again.
