The US said the ship, identified as the Sagitta, "defied President Trump's imposed quarantine of ships" and is on the US sanctions list.
The ship was seized without incident, according to the responsible US military command center, US Southern Command.
The ship is the seventh to be boarded and seized since President Trump issued an order to blockade ships traveling to or from Venezuela.
