Huckabee visited Turmus Ayya on Saturday, where a majority of residents have American citizenship. The village has suffered several attacks by Israeli settlers.
People in these communities have the right to live in safety and security, and the government has a responsibility to ensure that happens, Huckabee says.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967, and Palestinians have long suffered violence from settlers, often without Israeli authorities responding. In recent months, attacks have increased.
Huckabee, himself a supporter of Israeli settlements, avoids directly criticizing Israel but says that “crime is crime, terror is terror,” and that such actions must have “severe consequences.”
