Iranian state media further claims that several missile attacks have been directed against American bases in Jordan.
The US military command Centcom, in turn, says on X that the attacks are a response to previous Iranian missile attacks on US ships in recent days.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the US will not let Iran's attacks go unanswered.
"Iran continues its attempts to attack U.S. naval vessels. And every time they do it, or try to do it, they will lose tankers," he told reporters during a visit to Colombia on Tuesday, local time.
