According to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), each World Cup nation receives an allocation of eight percent of the tickets for each match it plays. The Iranian Football Federation has already sold the tickets allocated to it for matches against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt.
"But now the allocation has been unexpectedly withdrawn. We do not have a single ticket to offer our supporters," the federation said in a statement.
The United States, which is at war with Iran, has in several ways prevented or made it difficult for the Iranian national football team to travel to the United States, where they will play their group-stage matches in the World Cup - which Iran believes violates FIFA and the tournament's rules.
