US Retail Sales Drop Below Expectations in May

Sales in retail trade fell to the lowest level since the beginning of the year. In May, retail sales fell by 0.9 percent. A decrease of 0.6 percent was expected, according to Bloomberg.

The largest decline was for building materials and motor vehicles. Excluding vehicles and petrol, retail sales fell by 0.1 percent.

Restaurant and bar sales in the USA fell at the same time to the lowest level since the beginning of 2023, writes Bloomberg.
