This means a return to the same number of brigades as in 2021, the Pentagon said in a statement. The decision was reportedly made after a “comprehensive, multi-faceted process focused on the US military presence in Europe.”
The announcement comes just days after the US halted the deployment of 4,000 troops en route to Poland. The Pentagon now states that the drawdown will mean “a temporary delay in the deployment of US forces” to Poland, a US ally.
A brigade comprises around 4,000-4,700 troops, according to a congressional report, AFP writes.
