The US President Donald Trump's government is moving forward with introducing tariffs on imports of semiconductors and medicines by initiating investigations led by the Commerce Department, reports Bloomberg.

You should, among other things, investigate how the import of that type of products affects the USA's national security.

The President has long described foreign production of medicines and semiconductors as a threat to national security – and is threatening with import tariffs in an attempt to revive American manufacturing. But the tariffs can also cause devastation in supply chains and drive up costs for Americans, writes Bloomberg.

The pharmaceutical industry has long avoided trade wars, as international agreements for humanitarian reasons have largely protected medicines from tariffs.
