This can be compared to August, when the number of jobs in the sector decreased by 3,000, according to revised figures from ADP.
The average forecast among analysts was, according to the news agency Bloomberg, 51,000 new jobs in September.
The ADP report comes at the same time as large parts of the US government have been shut down from and including October 1, with hundreds of thousands of employees furloughed without pay. This after the Senate has not been able to agree on a new American budget.
The shutdown, the first in seven years in the US, means, among other things, that Friday's job figures for September from the US Department of Labor will most likely be delayed.
