Monthly figures from the payroll administrator ADP show that the number of jobs in the private sector in the USA increased by 54,000 in August.
This can be compared to July, when the number of jobs in the sector increased by 106,000 according to revised figures.
The average forecast among analysts indicated that 68,000 new jobs would be created in August, according to the news agency Bloomberg's compilation.
Tomorrow Friday, the major monthly employment report from the US Department of Labor will be released.
