Exceptions are made for certain products, such as coffee, beef, certain fruits, and aircraft parts.
According to the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), Brazilian regulations on digital commerce, electronic payments, anti-corruption, copyright protection, access to the ethanol market, and illegal deforestation impose unreasonable costs and restrictions on American companies.
According to the USTR, Brazil has until July 15 to take action to stop the introduction of the tariffs.
Last year, the US imposed 50 percent tariffs on Brazil, but most of those tariffs have since been removed.
