The US military is preparing to move up to 7,000 captured ISIS members from Syria to Iraq.

Around 150 IS members have been transferred from Syria's al-Hasakah province to Iraq, where they are to be held prisoner.

However, according to an announcement from the military command center CENTCOM (United States Central Command), it may ultimately be necessary to move around 7,000 prisoners, writes X. The goal is to ensure that those prisoners are kept incarcerated.

After the US suspended cooperation with the Kurds in the fight against IS in Syria, Kurdish-led SDF forces are said to have abandoned the al-Hol IS camp in al-Hasakah and allowed prisoners to escape.

According to the SDF, up to 1,500 IS prisoners may have escaped.
