The United States and Jordan say they have shot down Iranian missiles aimed at American forces in the Middle East.
According to Trump, US forces had only minutes to respond to the attack, but the incoming missiles were shot down before they reached their targets, he told Fox News.
He promised a powerful response to the attack.
"We will hit them hard. They will get a beating," the American president said, according to the news channel.
"All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted. U.S. forces remain vigilant and on high alert," Centcom wrote on X on Wednesday morning.
“Threats against Iran”
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed on Wednesday that they had attacked American targets in Jordan.
"As long as the threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran continue and the illegal and harmful actions of the American forces against our interests continue, the resistance will continue," the Revolutionary Guards wrote in a statement, according to the Iranian news agency Mehr.
The United States has bases in several countries in the Middle East that have been the target of Iranian attacks during the war.
Meanwhile, US Centcom and Saudi Arabia announced that the countries carried out attacks against "Iran-backed terrorists" in several locations in northeastern Iraq overnight. The attacks are said to have targeted locations used to attack US targets and Saudi infrastructure.
According to Trump, the US and Saudi attacks on Iraq were coordinated with the Iraqi government, Fox News reports.
The Iran-backed Shiite militia, the People's Mobilization Forces (PMF), said that at least 20 members had been killed and around 30 wounded in the US-Saudi attacks, according to AFP.
Iranian state television reports that the United States has attacked an area bordering Iraq in the country's northwest.
Ships fired upon
Early in the morning, there were also reports that Iran had fired on and stopped three ships en route through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Revolutionary Guard, the attacks were carried out after the ships "ignored our warnings and continued to travel on an unsafe and illegal route," reports the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
The events come after a few days of a lull in attacks between the US and Iran. Last week, US President Donald Trump said he had decided to call off strikes on Iran after mediators asked him to give diplomacy a chance.
