US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement that even those who pay the fees to pass through the strait could be subject to sanctions, as they may "support or receive services from" the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Furthermore, Bessent said that Iran's fees are proof that the regime is "desperate for money."
