The sanctions target 14 vessels in Iran's oil fleet and other parts of the country's oil industry.
The announcement came in a statement from US State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott.
Pigott said that President Donald Trump is “determined to crack down on the Iranian regime’s illicit oil and petrochemical exports,” and he referred to the administration’s efforts to increase pressure on the Tehran regime.
The announcement of sanctions against Iran came just hours after US Representative Steve Witkoff met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi via a proxy.
