The United States will share technology to allow South Korea to build a nuclear submarine, President Donald Trump announced on social media.

The announcement comes after Trump met with South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung. During the meeting, Lee reportedly said that South Korea could help the United States in the region with the help of a nuclear submarine, and he also reportedly promised to increase the country's defense budget so that the United States can reduce its military spending in the region.

The technology in American nuclear submarines is considered among the most sensitive and protected in the military. According to the AP news agency, the US has not even shared all of the technology in the so-called Aukus cooperation with Britain and Australia.

In March, North Korea revealed that it was building a nuclear submarine.
