USA's stars will for the first time get paid to play the classic team competition Ryder Cup against Europe – which has become a big topic of discussion in the golf world. To silence that discussion, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay now choose to donate their entire sum to charity.

It is a great honor to get to play such a tournament, and yes, we are happy to get paid for it. And yes, I plan to donate the money, says world number four Schauffele.

The European players do not want to get paid for participating in the Ryder Cup, but the twelve American players and captain Keegan Bradley are each awarded half a million dollars. Previously, 300,000 dollars (2.8 million kronor) have been earmarked to be donated to charity. The remaining 200,000 dollars (1.9 million kronor) go to the players and captain as scholarships.

Also world number one Scottie Scheffler hints that he will give away his sum.

My wife and I like to do a lot of things in our area and I've never been the one to tell what we do, says Scheffler.

This year's Ryder Cup is decided outside New York from Friday to Sunday this week.
