Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announces on X that the measure will “give the most vulnerable nations the opportunity to temporarily access Russian oil that is currently stuck at sea.”

The first exception came after the US and Israel launched the war against Iran on February 28. According to Bessent, the aim was to stabilize the global energy market.

The new extended exemption is the second in the series and is valid for 30 days.

Global oil prices have risen sharply since the start of the war, and American consumers are also feeling the impact of sharply increased fuel costs.
