Landry was appointed this week as special envoy to Greenland, and has expressed pride in "making Greenland part of the United States."
How this will work seems somewhat unclear. Although Donald Trump has previously stated that he does not rule out military intervention, Jeff Landry now says that the US will not "try to conquer anyone" or "take over anyone's country."
"I think our discussions should be with the people who actually live in Greenland - the Greenlanders," Landry told Fox News.
What are they looking for? What opportunities have they not been given? Why have they not been given the protection they actually deserve?
The appointment of Landry has sparked strong criticism in Denmark, and this week US Ambassador Ken Howery was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen.
Landry is currently the Republican governor of the state of Louisiana.
