The House of Representatives has now voted in favor of the sanctions package by a vote of 262-159. It had previously been approved by the Senate.
The sanctions target Russia's energy and defense sectors, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other senior figures, as well as the so-called Russian shadow fleet. It is the most comprehensive package targeting Moscow approved since Donald Trump became president again.
Trump now needs to sign the proposal, something he previously said he would do.
