The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's spokesperson announced on Tuesday that the separate office for Palestinian issues would be incorporated into the US embassy, also located in Jerusalem.
President Donald Trump decided during his first term that the American embassy would move to Jerusalem, which was seen as a provocation against, among others, the Palestinians.
Former Foreign Minister Antony Blinken tried to open a consulate in Jerusalem for, among other things, Palestinian issues, which the host country Israel opposed. Instead, the Biden administration chose to open a separate office that could maintain contact with Palestinian representatives – which is now being closed.
