US Attack on Iran's Nuclear Sites Less Effective Than Claimed

USA has through eavesdropping obtained intelligence indicating that the attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities have not been as effective as the president claimed, reports The Washington Post. The White House is furious about the publication.

Intelligence consists of signals intelligence against "high-ranking" government sources in Iran who discussed the US bombing of Iran. During the conversation, which was intended to be private, they speculate about why the attack was not as destructive and extensive as they had expected.

This is stated by four independent sources with insight into the classified intelligence, which is circulating within the US government.

”It's nonsense”

The Trump administration does not deny the existence of the new intelligence. Instead, the intercepted Iranians have no real insight into the matter, according to White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.

It's nonsense that unnamed Iranian government sources would know what happened during the raids. Their nuclear program is over, she says and calls The Washington Post's publication "shameful".

US President Donald Trump has maintained that Iran's nuclear program has been "wiped out", which is contradicted by classified preliminary reports from the Pentagon that suggest that neither Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium nor the centrifuges used have been destroyed.

”The effect we hoped for”

A source within the Trump administration says that the Iranians' speculation is incorrect, because the facility where enriched uranium is converted into a solid form usable in nuclear weapons has been destroyed.

”We know that our weapons landed exactly where we wanted and that they had the effect we hoped for”, the source says to The Washington Post.

The nuclear facility, Isfahan, was attacked by the US Navy's cruise missiles. The two enrichment facilities Fordo and Natanz were bombed by the air force, according to the US Department of Defense.
