According to the US Department of Justice, the arrested and now formally charged military officer was involved in the planning of Operation Absolute Resolve, which led to Maduro's capture earlier this year.

According to prosecutors, he used classified information to place bets - related to the stake - on the prediction market Polymarket.

In total, the man is believed to have made 13 bets, including bets on Maduro and on the US military presence in Venezuela. He faces up to 60 years in prison for crimes related to the betting, The Guardian reports.
