The announcement comes just an hour after Chinese President Xi Jinping landed in Washington to meet his American counterpart Donald Trump.
Earlier this week, Bessent met with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng to talk about trade, among other things, in a meeting that was described as “very successful.”
