This is announced by US Finance Minister Scott Bessent, after four days of negotiations in Buenos Aires with his Argentine counterpart Luis Caputo.
"Argentina is facing acute liquidity problems. The international community – including the IMF – is behind Argentina and its smart economic plan, but only the US can act quickly", Bessent writes in a long post on X.
For this reason, the US has already begun to support the purchase of the Argentine peso, he writes further.
Argentina's president Javier Milei, one of Donald Trump's allies, thanks the American president.
"Together, as close allies, we will lead our hemisphere to economic freedom and prosperity", he writes on X.
Milei, libertarian and self-proclaimed "anarcho-capitalist", has with his extensive cuts made himself popular with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) – which over the years has approved 23 loans to the country.
