Leading stock market indices in Shanghai and Tokyo were on the plus side in Thursday's initial trading, while the stock exchange in Hong Kong is closed for the weekend.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index was up 0.7 percent, as much as the broader Topix index.
In Shanghai, the composite index was up 1 percent, while in Shenzhen it was just below zero. The Kospi index in South Korea was also minus, just under zero.
