Three people were found shot to death at a hair salon in Uppsala on Tuesday afternoon. A couple of hours after the deed, a 16-year-old boy was arrested.
This person was arrested at their residence and was at the time absent from a HVB home. It's something we've unfortunately seen in several cases of serious violent crimes before, says Vice Prosecutor Magnus Berggren, who describes the arrest as having gone smoothly.
The prosecutor refers many of the questions to the fact that there is a secrecy of preliminary investigation, and that it is therefore "locked" regarding the arrested boy, the three who were killed, and the course of events itself.
What's happening right now is that they're analyzing seizures, for example, seized mobile phones.
The 16-year-old was arrested late on Tuesday on probable grounds suspected of the three murders. The prosecutor describes the evidence as strong.
It's the higher degree of suspicion. As the investigation looks now, there's a good reason to suspect this person. But then the investigation will show what the final result will be, says Berggren to TT.
Does not rule out further arrests
He also says that no one else has been arrested or is suspected of the deed.
However, it's not possible to definitively rule out that there will be more suspects in the future.
The 16-year-old's lawyer Anders Sannevik says to TT that he has met the suspect, but does not want to give any further comment.
The investigation is in a very sensitive phase, so I'm very sparing with comments.
Too early for motive
Large police resources are on site in Uppsala due to the Walpurgis Night celebrations, and according to the police, additional resources will be allocated to handle the investigation and "create safety and prevent crime in Uppsala".
Prosecutor Andreas Nyberg, who leads the investigation, has said to TT that he does not want to go into whether the suspect is known to the justice system previously. He also does not want to say anything about motive or whether the three victims were intended targets, according to the prosecutor.
But circumstances on site indicate that the perpetrator was intent on killing, says Nyberg to TT.
"Interesting seizures"
The police do not rule out further arrests and have retrieved film material from surveillance cameras.
We have secured a lot of evidence and made interesting seizures, says Åkerlund.
We have received witness statements – good witness statements.
The victims are between 15 and 20 years old. According to several media outlets, at least one of the deceased appears in an investigation into planned crimes against individuals within the gang criminal sphere. Åkerlund does not want to say that there is a connection to gang criminality, but that the track is being investigated.
