The person was arrested a few hours after the murder and is, according to court documents, under 18 years old. He was arrested at midnight and is, on probable grounds, the higher degree of suspicion, suspected of murder.

The police were quickly on the scene after an alarm about explosions and gunfire and were able to locate the crime scene, a hair salon, near Vaksala Square in central Uppsala.

We have received witness statements – good witness statements, says Erik Åkerlund, police area chief Uppsala, at a press conference.

We have secured a lot of evidence and made interesting seizures.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to move around the city during the Valborg celebrations, which has led the police to call in extra resources even before the shooting and therefore had many resources on site when the crime occurred.

"No clear connection"

The victims are between 15 and 20 years old, according to the police.

We have taken in several people who are interesting for the investigation for questioning, says police spokesperson Stefan Larsson to TT.

According to media reports, at least one of the deceased appears in an investigation for planned crimes against individuals within gang criminality.

We cannot say that there is a clear connection to gang criminality right now, says Åkerlund, but adds that they are looking into that track.

So far, the police have said that it is an "isolated incident" that is not linked to a risk to the general public. This means, according to Åkerlund, that it is not connected to the Valborg celebrations in Uppsala.

This does not mean that we are only investigating this crime, but we are working forward and sideways. Many crimes turn out to be connected, says Åkerlund at the press conference.

"Many rumors"

The chairman of the municipal council in Uppsala, Erik Pelling (S), tells SVT that many in Uppsala have been affected by the incident.

There were a lot of rumors going around yesterday. Not least, young people were very badly affected by this incident, he says.

To SVT, Pelling says that "society must do more".

It is clear that this is not a flattering picture of Uppsala. This paints a dark picture of our entire country.
