The National Rifle Association (NRA) wrote on X that "responsible voices" should await the investigation and not "generalize and denigrate law-abiding citizens" - a post in the debate about the Minneapolis shooting, where several pro-Trump politicians have defended the shooting on the grounds that the victim, Alex Pretti, is said to have been armed.
In response, the NRA's post was a reply to a statement from Bill Eaasyli, a California assistant district attorney. The NRA wrote, "Statements like this are dangerous and inaccurate."
But the NRA should not yet be seen as friendly to Democrats. An earlier post criticized Democratic Governor Tim Walz, who is alleged to have "incited violence against police officers who are just trying to do their jobs."
