"Today, we concluded the agreement on an investment of several billion pounds that will make Bedford home to one of Europe's largest amusement parks," says Starmer in a statement.
The new park is estimated to create around 28,000 jobs, including 20,000 during the construction period, and provide an economic boost of approximately 640 billion kronor to the British economy by 2055. It is expected to be completed in 2031.
The park will be Universal's sixth in the world. The first one opened in 1964 in Hollywood, based on the original film studios, followed by a park on the US east coast in Orlando. Three others are located in Asia – in Beijing, Osaka in Japan, and Singapore.
