After Abdoulaye Doucouré made it 2–0 to Everton – coached by former United coach David Moyes – after a little over half an hour, the atmosphere in the away section was not particularly pleasant.

At that point, there was much to suggest that Ruben Amorim's Manchester United would suffer another defeat, and that crisis headlines would continue to pour down on the club.

But when team captain Bruno Fernandes scored a free kick in the 72nd minute, the red-clad gang got new air in their lungs, and a spark of hope to leave the classic arena with points was lit.

And so it was. With ten minutes left of regular time, Manuel Ugarte scored 2–2, which meant a shared pot.

It could, however, have ended in defeat anyway.

In stoppage time, the referee awarded a penalty to Everton after Ashley Young – with over 250 matches in the United jersey – was knocked down, but the VAR room intervened and changed the decision.

United remain in 15th place in the table.
