The majority of children have been hit by drone strikes, the UN Children's Fund said on Monday. Children are being killed and injured in their homes, in markets and on roads.
“Children are caught in a relentless cycle of violence, displacement and loss,” said the organisation’s Sudan director, Sheldon Yett, in a press release.
Sudan has been plagued by a bloody civil war since April 2023. The war is now raging mainly in Kordofan, Darfur and Blue Nile.
On Monday, the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) condemned the violence in Sudan - including widespread sexual violence - and expressed concern about even worse mass abuses.
The council ordered an urgent investigation into war crimes in the hard-hit El-Obeid, which has been surrounded for months by the paramilitary RSF, fighting against Sudan's regular army.
