Approximately 26,000 children in the Gaza Strip are currently suffering from acute malnutrition, according to the UN's children's fund Unicef.

Over 10,000 of them are in Gaza City where Israel has initiated an extended offensive during the last 24 hours.

The forced and massive displacement of families from Gaza City is a deadly threat to the most vulnerable, says Unicef spokesperson Tess Ingram at a press meeting.

In August, every eighth child examined in the Gaza Strip suffered from acute malnutrition. In Gaza City, the same figure was one in five children.

According to Ingram, child malnutrition is at the highest level so far.
