Revenue from semiconductors for the AI segment is expected to be $16 billion in the quarter ending in July, Broadcom's new forecast shows, below the average analyst estimate of $17.2 billion.

For the full fiscal year, which ends in October, Broadcom expects $56 billion in revenue from AI chips, compared to an average forecast of $57.6 billion.

Concerns about a slowdown in the AI race are also hitting other stocks in the segment, such as Japanese tech giant SoftBank, which plunged 10 percent in overnight trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
