An injury crisis in the Swedish defense meant Fridolina Rolfö was included as a defensive option for the latest World Cup qualifying campaign.

But when national team coach Tony Gustavsson recently presented the squad for the upcoming matches against Denmark in Gothenburg on Tuesday and Serbia in Stockholm on Saturday, the veteran was listed among the midfielders and strikers.

However, it also came as news to Rolfö.

We had a discussion before the last camp because it was the first time I was selected as a defender then, she said.

But this time I didn't know.

Fridolina Rolfö is one of the veterans in the Swedish squad and has 107 international caps and 33 goals ahead of Tuesday's match.

However, the fact that she was used as a defender last time is not that surprising.

Rolfö was a left-back for a large part of her time in Barcelona's senior team. After moving to Manchester United last year, she has also made occasional appearances in the back line, although the move has otherwise meant more offensive play.

I see myself as flexible; I can play both in defensive and forward positions, she said.

I am prepared for what is needed and feel ready regardless of whether I am expected to play as a defender or a forward, she said.
