The paramilitary RSF's advance, escalated shelling and drone attacks on the capital, El-Obeid, in Sudan have prompted the UN Security Council to react: "Lay down your weapons now," it said.
"The members of the Security Council are concerned about an imminent risk of mass atrocities and have called on the RSF to immediately cease the attack on El-Obeid," the UN Security Council said in a statement.
El-Obeid is located in North Kordofan and is an important junction between the capital Khartoum and the Darfur region. The town was retaken by the Sudanese military in February and has since been partially besieged by the RSF.
Tens of thousands have been killed, and an estimated eleven million have been forced to flee in the civil war in Sudan.
