Over 136,000 displaced people are staying in 660 shelters, most of them schools filled beyond capacity, Karolina Lindholm Billin, UNHCR's representative in the region, told reporters on Friday.

She also said that $60 million is needed to scale up the efforts.

The Iranian-backed militia group Hezbollah attacked Israel on March 2, drawing Lebanon into the war raging in the region. Since then, Israel, which has violated the ceasefire it signed with Hezbollah in November 2024 on an almost daily basis, has carried out large-scale attacks on Lebanon.

Earlier this week, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed that Israel should control all of southern Lebanon up to the Litani River.
