Iranian nuclear weapons would constitute a "threat to international security”, writes Kaja Kallas in a post on X.
”I urge all parties to take a step back, return to the negotiating table and avoid further escalation. The EU's foreign ministers will discuss the situation tomorrow”, she writes.
The EU's Council President António Costa is ”deeply concerned” about the situation. He urges everyone to show restraint and says that the EU will continue to work for a peaceful solution at the negotiating table.
”Far too many civilians will once again fall victim if the situation is escalated further”, he writes on X.
Escalation
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is on the same track, and "urges Iran to return to the negotiating table to reach a diplomatic solution to this crisis", according to a statement on X.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres calls what is happening a ”dangerous escalation” in a region that is already tense and "a direct threat to international peace and security."
He urges the UN member states to work for de-escalation and uphold their commitments regarding international law and continues: ”At this critical moment, it is of the utmost importance to avoid a spiral of chaos”.
”Serious threat"
China directs strong condemnations against the US attacks and means that they lead to an escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
”China urges all parties to the conflict, especially Israel, to cease fire as soon as possible”, reads a statement from the country's foreign ministry.
Strong condemnations also come from the Iraqi side.
”This military escalation constitutes a serious threat to peace and security in the Middle East and poses serious risks to regional stability”, says the spokesperson for the Iraqi government, Basim Alawadi, in a statement.
Israeli praise
From Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu comes nothing but praise. The Prime Minister says in a clip published on Sunday night that the attacks ”were fully coordinated” together with Israel.
History will remember that President Trump acted to deny the world's most dangerous regime the world's most dangerous weapons, says Netanyahu.
