Nearly 27 million people are at risk of "crisis levels of food insecurity" early next year, and it could trigger instability across the region, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Programme, WFP, warn.
Millions of lives are at risk and regional stability will suffer, said Cynthia Jones, acting country director at WFP.
Already, almost four million people are living in famine and more than three million children are suffering from stunted growth due to chronic malnutrition.
According to the WFP, reduced aid has forced them to reduce the number of people receiving assistance from 2.3 million to 600,000 people.
The organization is now requesting $127 million in emergency funding. Without additional money, it may have to end all aid in Congo starting in February.
