The war in Gaza is spreading to the Israeli-occupied West Bank in an alarming way, warns UN agency UNRWA's chief Philippe Lazzarini in a statement on X.
"More than 50 people, including children, have been reported killed since the Israeli forces' operation began five weeks ago", he writes.
On Sunday, Israeli tanks, for the first time in over 20 years, entered the refugee camp Jenin on the West Bank. Israel's military is expected to operate in the area for at least another year, and the tens of thousands of people who have fled will not be able to return, announced Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz the same day, according to AP.
"The West Bank is becoming a battleground: ordinary Palestinians are the ones who are affected first and most", writes Lazzarini.
