The UN Security Council on Friday lifted its sanctions against the now-disbanded Islamist armed group HTS, which was previously led by Syria's interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa.
Al-Sharaa led the group when it, along with other rebel groups, overthrew Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in 2024.
The group has been subject to sanctions by the UN Security Council as it has had links to the terrorist movement al-Qaeda.
