Russia fired a record number of missiles at Ukraine in July, according to an AFP analysis of data published by the Ukrainian Air Force. Ballistic missiles, which are difficult to shoot down, rained down on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

At least 437 civilians were killed and 2,610 injured in Ukraine in July, the UN human rights monitoring mission said in a statement. That is a 30 percent increase compared with the previous month. The death toll is the highest recorded since May 2022, shortly after the start of the full-scale invasion, according to the UN.

However, civilian deaths are only a small part of the total casualties of the war. The number of military casualties is believed to be far higher, but the exact figure is unclear.
