"We have a few weeks to prevent what is likely to become a massive humanitarian crisis," said Jorge Moreira da Silva, head of the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), in an interview with AFP.
The crisis could force more than 45 million people into hunger and starvation, he said.
Iran is blocking shipping through the important strait as a result of the war with the US and Israel.
