Like several other aid organizations, WFP is affected by US President Donald Trump's decision to freeze most of the American aid for three months, while several other Western countries have reduced their aid allocations.
According to WFP, the financial shortage means that they must postpone aid efforts for 650,000 undernourished women and children in Ethiopia, whose population has been severely tested by civil war, drought, and a large refugee flow from neighboring Sudan.
WFP notes that they face a deficit of 222 million dollars, over two billion Swedish kronor, for the period between April and September in Ethiopia. Moreover, they fear that the humanitarian situation in the country will deteriorate further.
