“The discovery of a large number of remains under the rubble in Gaza City raises questions again about war crimes and other heinous crimes,” Türk said in a statement.
He is calling for independent investigators to be given access to collect evidence throughout the Gaza Strip.
“I worry that the remains found so far are just the tip of the iceberg.”
Nearly 74,000 people in the Gaza Strip have been killed in the war between Israel and Hamas, according to Hamas-controlled authorities. Large parts of Gaza lie in ruins.
“In many areas where the Israeli military operates, the ground continues to be levelled by bulldozers, without regard for the dead who lie under the rubble,” Türk says.
